The Kyiv Lights Festival –
is the first international festival
of light and media arts in Kyiv.

Bright and colorful light sculptures and installations, light projections on buildings and trees, light shows, and drone shows will transform the city into an open art gallery, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. The festival’s main event will be the international mapping and VJing contest. Ukrainian and foreign lighting artists will turn the River Port building on Poshtova square into huge screen with spectacular video projections demonstrating the stunning possibilities of advanced technologies. The Kyiv Lights Festival follows the traditions of famous light festivals that are held annually in many capitals of the world. Admission is free to all festival venues.

All the festival locations are open on 12, 13, 14 May. The admission is free.

The program includes lectures and workshops on video mapping, VJing, modern architecture and urban studies from renowned Ukrainian and foreign experts.

We are happy to announce an international 3D video mapping contest and VJing contest within the festival! We invite visual artists from across the globe to take part in the Contests! An international Jury will judge both Contests. The total prize fund is 125,000 UAH.

Contest Conditions

3D Video Mapping Contest will take place on the building of the River Port on Poshtova Square during 3 days of the festival. To apply, please check out the technical specifications, fill in the application form, and download the 3D model of the building. The deadline for submitting works is April 25 (extended until April 30).

The VJing Contest will take place at the River Port building. Thе participants have to create video projections on a building in real time as a DJ goes through a live set. The deadline for submitting works is April 25 (extended until April 30).


Ricardo Cançado

aka VJ Eletroiman, a director of the Festival Visual Brasil. He is the winner of many VJ contests and often participates in audiovisual festivals across the world including Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, France, Hungary, Switzerland and Brazil.

Nicola Pavone

aka Vj Luper, is a video artist, programmer and interactive media designer based in Prague. Nicola is a curator of the OFF section of SIGNAL Lights Festival in Prague and one of the organizers of BYOB Prague.

Michiyuki Ishita

is an artist, creative director, space designer, video creator, event planner and producer. He chairs Projection Mapping Association of Japan/PMAJ. He is an organizer of One minute Projection Mapping Competition. That’s an international video mapping contest held in Japan since 2012.

Yanina Prudenko

Ph.D., Associate professor at Department of Cultural Studies, National Pedagogical Dragomanov University. Yanina is also a curator at the Open Archive of the Ukrainian Media Art and the New Art School specializing in the media art education in Ukraine.

Yuriy Chornenkyy

Head of marketing communications department at Kyivstar. Yuriy’s portfolio embraces development of brands such as Kyivstar, Beck’s, life, Beeline Kz, jury member of Effie and Wow Done awards, best practice speaker at Effie, KMFR, video|photo producer, musician.

Contest Location

The building of the River Port, located on Poshtova square, will become the location of the VJing and mapping contests. It was built in 1961 as a project of two architects, V. Hopkalo and V. Ladnyi. The building with a tall tower resembles a white steamship with a mast. The structure’s laconic and elegant style makes it an excellent screen for video projection. The square in front of the River Port can accommodate up to 50,000 people.
